Spinal Flow

Gentle technique to support your body's natural healing. Not a massage.

The Spinal Flow Technique is an exciting modality that prompts the spine and nervous system to release blockages and restores the flow of Life Force Energy along the spine. While Spinal Flow is not a massage at all, it can be an amazing addition to your wellness journey.

Clients remain fully dressed and are asked to wear loose, thin attire so the practitioner can easily make contact with the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine). We ask clients beginning their Spinal Flow journey to commit to a series of 12 sessions, 2 to 4 sessions per week, to maximize the cumulative positive changes that can come from these sessions. As layers of blockages are removed, your body can tap into its innate wisdom and support its own healing.

Please complete the Spinal Flow client information form before your initial session. You can print the form and bring it with you, or arrive 10–15 minutes before your session to complete it at our facility.

Overview

The Spinal Flow Technique is a healing modality that uses gentle touch to tap into the body’s Life Force Energy, which then releases blockages in the spine and promotes the body’s natural healing processes.

Blockages develop as a result of physical, emotional, and chemical stressors that we experience as we age and go through life. A variety of symptoms can arise depending on which gateway (location) these blockages form on the spine.

By making contact with access points on your sacrum or sphenoid (above the ear), the Spinal Flow practitioner prompts the Life Force Energy to increase in flow, which in turn clears blockages and stress stored in the spine.

What the practitioner does and does not do

The Spinal Flow practitioner is not diagnosing, prescribing, or treating any physical or mental illness. The practitioner focuses on increasing spinal flow and identifying and tracking blockages to ensure they are decreasing. As these blockages are removed, layer by layer, the body’s innate wisdom can address whatever needs healing within the body.

Is Spinal Flow safe for me?

There are no contraindications to undergoing Spinal Flow treatments. However, as your body releases layers of long-held physical, chemical, and emotional stress, you may experience discomfort, aches and pain, or strong emotions. This is known as a healing crisis. If this occurs, treat yourself gently, hydrate well, support yourself as needed, and trust that your body is working through the release.

How is this different from Reiki or massage?

Reiki involves channeling universal life force energy into the client’s body, while Spinal Flow works with the life force energy already within the body. There is no manipulation of bones, joints, or tissue as in massage or bodywork. Instead, the practitioner applies gentle pressure on specific points on the spine, usually on the sacrum and sphenoid, occasionally on the coccyx.

What to wear

Wear loose, thin clothing so the practitioner can easily access the sacrum through your clothes. Thick seams, waistbands, and textures like denim make it difficult for the practitioner to work effectively.

What to expect

Step one: initial appointment

The practitioner conducts a gateway and posture assessment, including before photos. Combined with your intake form, they discuss their findings and how Spinal Flow might help with your wellness goals. You develop a service plan, book subsequent sessions, and then receive your first Spinal Flow session.

Step two: Spinal Flow sessions

For up to 30 minutes, the practitioner works to increase the flow of Life Force Energy along your spine by making contact with access points on your sacrum and sphenoid while you lie face down on the massage table. They may use sacral bolsters under your pelvis, gently press on your pelvis, hamstrings, and feet, or gently brush a line along your spine. They may step away and observe the flow. Your role is to stay present in your body, observe, breathe, and allow.

Step three: reassessment

After your 12th session, the practitioner reassesses gateways and posture, including after photos. Based on progress, subsequent sessions may be spaced out as appropriate. Regular Spinal Flow sessions can help maintain progress. Reassessment continues about every 12 sessions.

Can I try just one session?

You can, but Spinal Flow is not a once-off experience. Results are powerful yet subtle: to build meaningful change, we ask that you commit to at least 12 sessions, 2 to 4 times per week, over a few consecutive weeks. Blockages did not appear overnight, and they typically do not release all at once. Your body needs time to ease out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-heal mode. We offer a $10 discount per regular Spinal Flow session when multiple sessions are booked in advance. Ask Lynne or the front desk for details.
