Spinal Flow

The Spinal Flow Technique is an exciting new modality that prompts the spine and nervous system to release blockages, and restores the flow of Life Force Energy along the spine. While Spinal Flow is not a ‘massage’ at all, it can be an amazing addition to your wellness journey. Clients remain fully dressed, and are asked to wear loose, thin attire so the practitioner can easily make contact with the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine). We also ask for clients to commit to a series of 12 sessions, 2-4 sessions a week, when beginning their Spinal Flow journey, to maximize the cumulative positive changes that can be expected from these sessions. As layers of blockages get removed, your amazing body can then tap into its innate wisdom and work its magic to heal itself.

We ask that every client fill out the client information form before their initial Spinal Flow session. You can print the form and bring it with you, or arrive at least 10 minutes before your session to complete it at our facility.

Overview

The Spinal Flow Technique is a healing modality that uses gentle touch to tap into the body’s Life Force Energy which then releases blockages in the spine and promotes the body's natural healing processes.

Blockages develop as a result of physical, emotional, and chemical stressors that we experience as we age and go through life. A variety of symptoms can arise depending on which gateway (location) these blockages form on the spine (see chart).

By making contact with access points on your sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine) or sphenoid (above the ear), the Spinal Flow practitioner prompts the Life Force Energy to increase in flow, which in turn clears blockages and stress stored in the spine.

Can Spinal Flow help me with XYZ condition/symptom?

It is important to note that the Spinal Flow practitioner is not diagnosing, prescribing, or treating any physical or mental illness. The practitioner only focuses on increasing the spinal flow, and identifying and tracking blockages to ensure they are decreasing. However, as these blockages are removed, layer by layer, the body’s innate wisdom can then work its magic and address whatever needs healing within the body.

Here are some success stories:

I have XYZ condition, is Spinal Flow safe for me?

There are no contraindications to undergoing Spinal Flow treatments. However, it is important to remember that as your body releases layers of long-held physical, chemical, and emotional stress, you may experience discomfort, aches and pain, even cascades of emotions. This is known as a healing crisis. If this occurs, treat yourself gently, hydrate well, support yourself as needed, and trust that your body is working its magic.

Is this like Reiki, massage, or (other bodywork modality)?

body_being_worked_on

Not at all. Reiki involves channeling the universal life force energy into the client’s body, while Spinal Flow works with the life force energy already within said body. There is no manipulation of bones, joints, or tissue one would get from a massage or bodywork session; instead, there is only the application of gentle pressure on specific points on the spine, usually on the sacrum and sphenoid, occasionally on the coccyx, and—within a safe group healing retreat setting—on the thoracic spine.

What do I wear?

Please wear loose, thin clothing so the practitioner can easily access the sacrum through the clothes. The practitioner will have difficulty working through clothing with thick seams, waistbands, and textures like denim.

Can you describe what to expect in a Spinal Flow session?

Step One: initial appointment

The practitioner will conduct a gateway and posture assessment including “before” pictures. Combined with the information from your intake form, the practitioner will then discuss their findings, and how Spinal Flow might help you with your wellness goals. You will flesh out a service plan, book subsequent sessions, then it will be time for the Spinal Flow session itself.

Step Two: Spinal Flow sessions

For up to 30 minutes, the practitioner will work to increase the flow of Life Force Energy along your spine by making contact with access points on your sacrum and sphenoid while you lie facedown on the massage table. They will use a pair of sacral bolsters under your pelvis to literally and energetically open the area. They may gently push on your pelvis, hamstrings, and feet, or gently brush a line along your spine. They may step away and observe the flow. Your job is to stay present in your body, observing, breathing, perhaps moving, undulating, allowing.

Step Three: reassessment

After your 12th session, the practitioner will reassess the gateways and posture, including “after” pictures. Based on the progress and results achieved, we can start to spread out the subsequent sessions as appropriate. Incorporating regular Spinal Flow sessions into your wellness routine will help maintain the progress achieved during each session and move you along your wellness journey. We continue to reassess every 12 sessions or so.

Can I try just one session?

spenoid_work

You can, but Spinal Flow isn’t a once-off experience. The results are powerful yet subtle: in order to get a huge amount of change started, and to build upon said changes, we ask that you commit to at least 12 sessions, 2-4 times a week, over the course of a few consecutive weeks. The blockages did not pop up overnight, and therefore will not get released in one go either. Your body needs to be eased out of fight/flight and into rest/heal mode. We recognize this is a commitment of time and finances, and offer a $10 discount on regular (no assessments) Spinal Flow sessions if multiple sessions are booked in advance, please ask Lynne or the Front Desk for details.
